Grievously odious is it in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not.

(61: 03)

There is a book that has been in my hands for the past many weeks, Muhammad: His Life Based on The Earliest Sources by Martin Lings.

I trace back to a day months ago. When i with a few others initiated a gathering in the Prayer Hall sometime in the evening, late in appearance as dark had already descended. It was in Warwick University and the time was Maulid al-Rasul. And in one of the speeches i made to the small crowd that was attentively listening, grouped together in that beautiful circle i can now still picture, i recommended a book on the life of the prophet. And a few jotted the name of the book that soon it came to me that it had become my responsibility to read the said book.

Months passed, and after the meeting with the sponsor came to an end, we had the opportunity to walk to Kinokuniya, one of the bookstores that I’ve always loved. I chanced upon a green book. (chance is used here not for its literal meaning, but as a way of expressing how fate surprises us) And i knew it was the one.

There is a book that has been in my hands for the past many weeks, Muhammad: His Life Based on The Earliest Sources by Martin Lings. But still, the book is yet to be finished.

It does not hurt at times to be truly honest. This book is so dear to me.

Maybe it’s because the story is of the prophet. Maybe it is because the time is Ramadhan, and the soul is reviving itself. It might be because the writing is such a beauty. The lines of which keep me in the warmth till i close the pages, and even after. But i would say it’s the three combined together that made this one a very memorable read.

For every time i do open up its pages to read, tears will drop and i will weep.
