I have found a new rhythm. And last evening, i listened to the chorus of live. Last evening, i was part of the silent black.

He’s got our back

Posted in Uncategorized by khairul.anwar on November 25, 2008

Subhanallah. Just when i needed the support, a call came from someone i never knew. And so we arranged a meeting at the prayer hall, since he was here at university and the time was ripe enough for isya’. Brother Yusuf, thank you for the hardwork of gathering muslims (of Malaysia). Brother Rasyid, thank you for the “He’s got our back(!)”. Yea, i will remember that, insya-Allah. And Brother Zakariya, for leading the prayers, and for helping to show light on the misconception of the jamat saf the people here are having.

For the teh-tarik, i will come to your house, insya-Allah. But far more importantly, for the ties of brotherhood.

INTERPAL UNDER THREAT

Announcement

PRESS STATEMENT: 17 November 2008

Dear Friends,

Due to the overwhelming support Interpal has received on this matter, this statement is being released for further circulation and clarification. On the November 12, Interpal received notification from their bank, the Islamic Bank of Britain (IBB), that Lloyds TSB (their clearing bank) has served notice on IBB to cease all dealings with Interpal. Clearing banks are responsible for the processing of all financial transactions and Lloyds TSB is one of the 4 clearing banks in the UK which all high street banks must work through. The notice comes into effect on 8 December 2008 (date subsequently revised to 30 January 2009) and has the potential to force Interpal to cease operations early next month.

After this time “all transactions into or out of Interpal accounts will be blocked and IBB will be at further risk of all its customer payments being suspended”. To date, despite pressures from Lloyds, IBB has offered Interpal its full support but it remains threatened by Lloyds’ demands.

Lloyds TSB has treated IBB in a discriminatory fashion and its customers with complete disrespect. Other Muslim charities now face the same discrimination and their accounts can be closed down without adequate warning or explanation. At a time when ties amongst communities need to be strengthened, this is an Islamophobic attack on the rights of all British Muslims and sets a dangerous precedent for discrimination on all British citizens and account-holders.

This is not only an attack on Interpal, a leading British charity, but on all other Muslim charities, all charities working in politically-sensitive regions, all customers of IBB and the Palestinian people, 80% of whom are completely dependent on international aid for survival.

This comes as a result of pressures from foreign groups, which do not have the legality to interfere with either the British banking or charity sector, yet have managed to place IBB in a compromising situation. Additionally, this comes as Lloyds TSB recently benefited from a bailout of taxpayer’s money, without considering that Muslims are also among British taxpayers.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

  • CONTACT:
  1. Lloyds TSB, and express your outrage to Lloyd TSB’s imminent actions against IBB and your concern that British account-holders can be treated in such a manner. Contact Ms. Gay Campbell (Tel: 020 7661 4778; gay.campbell@lloydstsb.co.uk) or CEO Eric Daniels (eric.daniels@lloydstsb.co.uk).
  2. Your Local MP and 10 Downing Street, and pressure the government to act now against Lloyd TSB’s misconduct towards both IBB and all British Muslims; express your anxiety that Lloyds TSB, a beneficiary of British taxpayer’s money, can behave in such an abhorrent manner against British taxpayers.
  3. Islamic Bank of Britain, and show support for continuing to support Interpal (Tel: 0845 6060786).
  4. Charity Commission, to express your support for Interpal and your concern at the possible implications (Tel: 0845 3000218).

  • LLOYDS CUSTOMERS: DEMAND IMMEDIATE ACTION OR CLOSE YOUR ACCOUNT
  • FORWARD THIS NOTICE TO FRIENDS, FAMILY AND COLLEAGUES. Additionally, please read a statement from our Chairman on this matter.

In solidarity

Now you walk alone, treading the path showed before by memories. How do you stay in the path? How do you keep from falling down? So the beginning of reminiscence. Flipping the pages of past years of past lives. One saw the glimmer of hope in brotherhood. Where one’s fault is corrected by the other, where one is as a building block for a structure of empathy.

The desire to be part of something. The desire to integrate into society. The desire to care and be cared. Emotional stability.

Where do you find that system? Where would you seek to fill the emptiness?

I quote what Syeikh Tauqir said (in my own words) on a diffrent matter, but one that could be applied here. “Pray to God that you may find the people of dhikr to guide you”.

Soothing..

The call came and i found myself overreacting. The rainy day didn’t deter the spirit already set within me. So i walked, smiling to the droplets from heaven. A sudden news came and i ceased to move. A tiding once i would have been at ease to know of has now brought forth an entirely new experience. A silent prayer came out from the conscious mind.

Lakeside. Opening the door, a striking note greeted me. Thank you, Lord. Your Mercy encompasses all. The note from the caretaker whom i regard as my own family melts the heart. Even now.

She was right there. But the excuse i found: there wasn’t enough time.

Friends, sorry. The cause…

see. the reality now

She taught everything in her power, constrained by the time limit given. The hour was filled with her urgency to relay the message so vital, not granted during the boring hours of lecture by the professor. But in the end, i saw that catching up was never her real objective. But to excite. To provoke. That, i think was her real intention, because thrown at us were all these jargons and confusing derivatives that none of us, by the looks of it could comprehend.

And now, the spring of complexities begins for us future economists.

O the unforeseen,

aren’t you a delicate being,

in you our hopes lie

and to you our folly will be paraded.

I have found the courage to stop what i have been blindly doing for the past 7 weeks and to start concentrate on what i should be doing for the remaining 2 weeks of term. Objectivity.. It is hard to maintain the motivation when all around, distractions are ever present. Ah, but that is what makes my life all the more interesting. Instead of leading days of passivity, the responsibilities of resistance would animate what seemed colourless.
